鎌倉生まれ。
ハリス幼稚園の入園式で、全く知らない「ちょうちょ」をインプロソロで熱唱し、母親の顔から火が出る。
横国大小時代：高橋悠治の母、高橋英子氏にピアノを師事。また、グロリア少年合唱団に属し、前田幸市朗氏の指導を受け、NHK「歌のメリーゴーランド」他、テレビ、ラジオ、ステージの仕事をする。
横国大中時代：バンドをはじめる。オリジナルをたくさん作る。ブロックフルーテ・アンサンブルに参加。
横須賀高時代：ロックバンド、ジャズバンドで、地元および東京での活動を開始する。
早稲田大時代：小島美子氏に比較音楽学を学ぶかたわら、ライヴハウス、クラブなどで仕事をする。
1977年：日本語ファンクバンド「宇宙平和!」結成。
1978年：フュージョンポップバンド「Sience Fiction」結成。以降各地で演奏。
1979年：「Sience Fiction」アルファレコードと契約。
1980年：YMOのツアーにゲストギタリストとして参加。橋本一子、横山雅史、木村万作と前衛ロックグループ「Coloured Music」結成。
1981年：アルバム「Coloured Music」リリース。坂田明「Wahaha」のレコーディング、ステージに参加。
1982年：ロックグループ「HEART BEATS」のアルバムをプロデュース。リー・オスカーに「あっち向いてホイ」を教える。
1983年：谷山浩子のアルバム「たんぽぽサラダ」をプロデュース。山下洋輔「パンジャ・オーケストラ」に参加。
1984年：東映映画「高原に列車が走った」の音楽を作曲、出演、サウンドトラックアルバムをリリース。渡辺香津美とツアー。連続ドラマ「どきんちょネムリン」の音楽を作曲。谷山浩子のアルバム「水の中のライオン」をプロデュース。
1985年：吉田哲治、小田島亨、酒井泰三、木村万作らと「Beat Jazz」結成。アルバム「Beat Jazz」リリース。渡辺香津美とツアー。
1986年：菊地成孔、今堀恒雄らと「Tipographica」を結成。渋谷毅オーケストラに参加。橋本一子のアルバム「Vivant」をプロデュース。連続ドラマ「もりもりボックン」の音楽を作曲、カセットブックをリリース。
1987年：みんなの歌「おはようクレヨン」をマリンバカルテットとブラスアンサンブルで編曲。
1988年：橋本一子のアルバム[high excentrique]をプロデュース。nOrikOと「POISON GIRL FRIEND」結成。
1989年：小川美潮らと、IZUMO Ecology Festivalに参加。橋本一子、藤井信雄とインプロユニット「Hyper Inspiration」結成。以降各地で演奏。
1990年：江藤直子、大津真らと「NaO2」を結成。「Hyper Inspiration」パルテノン・カウントダウン・フェスティバルに参加。
1991年：「Phew」に参加。アルバム「SONGS」リリース。「Hyper Inspiration」ツアー。
1992年：初山博カルテットに、ドラマーとして参加。橋本一子のアルバム「ロマンティックな雨」をプロデュース。
1993年：春「Hyper Inspiration」ツアー。秋「Hyper Inspiration」ツアー。
1994年：以降 、交通事故後遺症のため仕事をしぼる。橋本一子のアルバム「UNDER WATER」をプロデュース。
1995年〜1996年：体調悪化のため、休業。
1997年：「敦夫藤本復活祭〜ライヴ・アンダー・ザ・グラウンド」を開催、満員御礼入場不能者でる。橋本一子、井野信義とトリオ始動。
1998年：橋本一子のアルバム「najanaja」をプロデュース。手塚眞監督作品映画「白痴」の作曲、演奏に参加。
1999年：橋本一子名義で「Miles Away」リリース。
2000年：ドラムの研究、練習に費やす。加藤道明とJazz Beat LABで実践。
2001年：橋本一子名義で「Miles Blend」リリース。
2002年：アニメ「ラーゼフォン」の作曲、演奏に参加。
2003年：体調悪化のため、休業。
2004年：「ラーゼフォン・ライヴ」をプロデュース、編曲。
2005年：橋本一子、井野信義と、3人対等のユビキタスグルーヴユニット「Ub-X」新生始動、全編オリジナル新曲レコーディング。
2006年：「Ub-X」アルバムリリース。タワーレコードで１位、5月「Ub-X」ドイツツアー。12月、国内ツアー。
2007年：「Ub-X」のアルバム『Vega』リリース。タワーレコードで１位。ソロシンガーとしての活動を開始。
2008年：橋本眞由己のアルバム『未来へ』をプロデュース。
2009年：橋本一子xAQのアルバム『Arc'd-X』をプロデュース。九州ツアー。
2010年：6月16日水曜日、ソロアルバム 『どこにもないランド』をリリース。発売日ライブを行う。
2011年：藤本敦夫feat.菊地成孔〜Poly Groove Jam 始動。
2012年：細野晴臣、長見順、他を招き、『Live Life with Fukushima』を開催。
2013年：インターネットダウンロードのみのアルバム「All You Need Is Life」を発表。

Born in Japan.
From early childhood he receives private piano lessons from the mother of Yuji Takahashi.
He is also a member of a boy's choir. Starts his musical career as a soloist, on stage and on TV,
mainly working with classical music.
He starts to play the guitar and compose music in a rock band in his early teens.
In his High School years, he is called to perform in rock and jazz bands at clubs, live houses,
and university festivals: perfoms as singer, guitar player, wood bassist and drummer.
He becomes a professional musician, while he studies philosophy and music anthropology at university.
Fujimoto is invited to collaborate and record with many big name artists,
such as Kazumi Watanabe, Yosuke Yamashita, YMO and Tipographica, as a talented musician multi-artist,
who excels in playing the guitar, piano, bass, drums, sax and vocal and who can also write and arrange music.
In addition, as a band leader,
he performs as a cross genres musician and executes many experimental live performances and recordings,
gaining tremendous popularity and respect from both the audience and a broad range of musicians.
Participates in the production of many outstanding albums in Japan as a sound producer.
In 1998, he established "the Trio" on the side of Ichiko Hashimoto and Nobuyoshi Ino.
Releases two albums and continues to pursue his vision of music in "Ub-X",
his drum performance finally reaches a poly-rhythm by unconscious creation of the ratios of whole numbers pulse.
